Kanye West and Mumford & Sons lead tributes to Virgil Abloh’s Adele cover

Adele debuted the ‘Easy on Me’ cover during an audience Q&A on Thursday

Kanye West has led the tributes to Virgil Abloh after his moving cover of Adele’s hit single ‘Easy on Me’ during a recent show went viral.

The Chicago rapper and Abloh – who in September took over West’s iconic Yeezy fashion label – launched The Wall of Sound Conference on 11 December. During an audience Q&A on Thursday, Abloh played the cover of Adele’s comeback track which he described as his “absolute favourite”.

West himself shared the video on Instagram, writing: “The game changer at the @WallOfSoundConference! That was not easy on me. #SOLID #FOUNDEM.”

Mumford & Sons singer Marcus Mumford commented: “Can I just say thanks for that Kanye.”

Meanwhile, Adele performed a bonus song from her acclaimed comeback album, 25, at the event, which saw Abloh interview New York Times writer David Simon. The cover of Adele’s emotional track is a rare musical performance of the former Simon & Garfunkel hit in the US.

Adele is set to release a special edition of 25 in January, when it will be split into three parts – entitled 25A, 25B and 25C. Each disc will include bonus features and new live dates that, according to Adele, address “the imbalance” between her struggles and “the amount of love people have for [her]”.

Meanwhile, West’s latest studio album, Yandhi, has received mixed reviews since its release last month. The rapper won two MTV VMA awards on Monday – Best Rap Video for “Lift Yourself” and Best Collaboration for “Ghost Town” with Kid Cudi.
